BUUUUUUUTTTT.... Misty actually ends up admiting she like him in the end, she even gives him her favorite fishing lure (which he uses in later seasons). Dawn goes of on her own journy after they part with that guy I cant remember the name of... was it drew... no that was Mays boyfriend, well any way thats beside the matter... my point is Misty is in love with Ash and Ash likes her (as seen in a few episode in kanto and johto)
I have always preferred Misty, but I still like Dawn. I think she's really pretty, but I don't know if she is good for Ash. From what I've seen it seems like Ash sees Dawn as a little sister, but with Misty its different. They both make a constant effort to deny their feelings, but when threatening things happen they have amazing chemistry. Here's some examples of why I think Misty is the better choice.
Examples:
-In the second movie Misty states that Ash will never be alone because he has her.
-Nurse Joy says that when two people fight they really care for one another.
-Ash keeps in constant contact with Misty and even stated in the Jirachi movie that he thinks of Misty all the time and misses her.
-From what I've watched (haven't watched all the episodes) Team Rocket doesn't tease Ash about liking Dawn, but they did with Misty. I believe the episode is Poke Ball Peril where Team Rocket asks where Brock is and Misty and Ash reply that he left. Team Rocket replies oh i see you guys want some alone time.
-In the episode where Hunter takes Ash's soul Misty was so terrified when she thought he was dead. Ash also made an effort to tease her excessively when he was a ghost. Remember the saying Boys only tease girls they like.
-She's the first girl and has already shown that she loves him. When she was going to leave she got angry at Ash because she didn't want to leave him and he was so quick to say goodbye. She even cried thinking that he didn't care about her, but by the end of the episode Misty understands that he does care for her. She says "Well Ash Ketchum I finally know how you feel about me."
-Lastly, Misty gives Ash a fishing bait with her face on it. Dawn asks if she can borrow it and he refused and guarded it with his life. Also, I don't think its normal accept a gift with someones face on it unless the two people are close and have an intimate relationship.

Oh another important fact in one episode a guy actually proposed to Misty and she refused. I forgot his name, but he was a gym leader and during the battle he was about to beat Ash. However, Misty cried out and he stopped because he realizes that Misty loves Ash. Ash received a gym badge because of her so I think she does support him.
That gym leader was Rudy. I watched that episode yesterday, in the end Rudy says to Ash that -"I hope you know you're a very lucky guy Ash. Ash: Lucky? What do you mean? Rudy: you will see someday" those lines were just another big Pokeshipping hint.
And misty likes to be close to ash in most of the episodes...it seems like they're always touching...and not in a perverted way haha but she grabs onto him a lot and they've held hands many times <3

Dawn is 10, May is 10, Ash is 10, and Misty is like 13. No....it's not pedophiles.
Like kitmolly pointed out, Dawn is more supported of Ash then Misty. Dressing up and cheering him on, and even doing a show to cheer him up. Misty is to pushy and bossy, and yells at him to much. Ash and Dawn get along better and are more alike.

I absolutely agree. Only with Misty did Ash give a sign that he felt the same way.
I think he did a little bit in the johto seasons along with kanto, OH! and i think once in hoenn when he pulls out the lure and may asked what that was and he went into detail about misty and how she gave it to him
