okay, before i start, please do not get me wrong. i'm not against the series or rick riordan or anything, otherwise i wouldn't be here. but these are just little things i noticed when i re-read the series, and i just thought to point them out, since i was wondering is anyone else had noticed.
slip number one: Thalia's eye colors.
in the sea of monsters, when percy has his dream about him being in a classroom, wearing a strait jacket, there was another girl with him, also wearing a strait jacket. she was described to have spiky black hair and startling GREEN eyes. we all knew, of course, that this other girl was Thalia, and yet, when she reappeared in the titan's curse, her eyes were startling BLUE, and stayed that way.
slip number two: Hercules and Heracles
not many of you may know this, but Hercules is actually the Roman name of Heracles. When I pointed this out to my teacher, he said that Mr Riordan may have instead used Hercules because everyone, of course, know about him, and not many have heard of Heracles. However, when i read the book tales of Greek Heroes by Roger Lancelyn Green -- which Mr Riordan introduced, saying that he read it in his childhood -- it occurred to me that maybe he had originally wrote Heracles, but the publishers changed it to Hercules, so the audience would understand. Further proof of this is in the Titan's Curse, when they were defeating the Nemean Lipon. we all know that the book have always said 'Hercules', but just that once, Percy said "at least, that was what Heracles did".
slipr number three: the siblings carried on the golden fleece
as aforementioned, the book Tales of Greek Heroes was introduced by Mr Riordan as a book from his childhood; one that inspired him to write the PJO series. however, in the book, it said that Helle and Phrixus, children of Zeus and the nymph Nephele, were the siblings of the Golden Fleece. they were about to be sacrified when Nephele, feeling pity, sent the Ram with fleece of gold to carry them to safety. along the way, Helle fell into the ocean, and that particular part is called hellespont to this day, supposedly. but what did annabeth say in the sea of monsters? that it was cadmus and europa that were the siblings, when actually, cadmus and europa were a generation before the golden fleece. cadmus was the man employed by the gods to slay typhon when they could not, playing the lyre and reed pipes. europa was the favoured one of zeus. zeus appeared to her as a pure white bull with golden horns, and carried her on his back across the oceans to hher brother, who was looking for him.
note: this is just what i found. feel free to express ur opinion. u may think mr green's book is rubbish or whatever. also, feel free to add what u found.
