This is weird. Teddy, Julie, me and Maria. Why do we happen to experience such terrible things? Now where could Julie be? And Teddy?! If we don't find Teddy soon I know I won't feel good any longer. And Maria, she must be here somewhere. Where else would she...
It's like a blackout when I suddenly stop and see her in front of me, laying on the wet ground as though she's dead for real. I feel a lump entering my throat and think:
This is real torture. Maria...
I walk to her and wait for a short moment but she doesn't open her eyes.
"Maria," I say. "Maria... Can you here me...?"
Slowly she opens her eyes and whispers: "Eee...laf... Is it...you...?"
"Yes, it's me. Hold on, Maria. I'll help you, just wa..." I stop and my reflection turns my head around directly when I hear someone say: "Not until you get through me first!". But I couldn't see anyone standing there...
I recognised the voice, I think while sitting with my back against the stones of the middle cave. Maria comes to me with hesitating steps.
"Elaf," she says.
A moment I feel I'm really rude to her because I keep staring at the nothingness in front of me without bothering about answering her or anything. I imagine myself sitting there as though I lost all my hope, completely.
"Elaf," she repeats and I get compelled to look at her, still without saying anything. "We can't stay here forever," she says in a whispering voice and a glance I don't get the hang of, but she sounds scared.
"We're stuck," is all I say in hope of that she'll understand, but instead she persists.
"So what?! We ahve to find a way out! I'm not gonna spend my time in this jail! We have to find the others and leave, right now!" now she sounds even terrified.
"Maria, don't you get it? We-are-stuck. We can't get out of these bars!"
"I don't care!" she shouts. "I want to go! We have to find Teddy, Julie, Kyara and all of them! Aren't you worried about them, Elaf?!"
"I am but..."
"No buts! We have to move!!"
"And how on earth do you expect us to do that, huh?!" I hear myself shouting at her. I don't like to do that, but she really got on my nerves. "Tell me, if it's that easy, Maria! How do you do to get out of jail bars? How does it work? Is it really that easy?!"
"I don't care about that!! I jsut don't want to stay here..." her voice starts to hack irregularly and I see that her eyes are about to empty her tears. They must have been stuck inside of her just like mine are now. The moonlight enters the jail bars and reaches her eyes so that I can see her tears glittring. I feel selfish when I listen to her as she says: "First Teddy, then Julie as you said, then you got whipped and then me. Elaf, do you know how I feel?! You have no idea! I'd rather die now! Do you understand when I formulate it that way? I hope so, because I'm really out of words right now..."
I hesitate at first, but then it slips out of me: "Is it... the pearl?"
