One Direction Question

How old should my main characters in my fanfic be?

I wanted one of the boys to fall for a younger girl...she was originally 14. But I want to be realistic and I want readers to relate to the story. Idk if I should stick with the idea or make her a bit older like 16 or make the boys younger?
