Once Upon A Time Question

Why does Mr.Gold put so much effort to create a spell that will help him cross the town line?

Even under the spell HE DID REMEMBER WHO HE IS! So honestly...what difference does it make if he is going to cross it or not - both as Mr. Gold and Rumpelstiltskin he had the same memories...

He did lose his memory under the curse (the writers have confirmed this) he only remembered who he was when emma arrived and time started again. Because of this he couldn't be sure he would keep his memory or not so he understandably choose to play it safe.

Gold did not want to cross the "Town Line" without his son's ragged scarf in case he lost his memory (who he is, Rumpleskiltskin) He needed to enchant the thing that meant the "most" to him. And that thing is Bae (besides Belle) That's why he enchanted "Bae's Scarf" to cross the town line with.

no i get this i am not stupid or smth but while he was under the curse (in jail) he told Regina his real name - even under the curse he had his memories so basically he can`t lose them - he was never cursed as the others, that`s what i don`t get. It`s the same case as Regina`s - they don`t have what to lose cuz they were with the same identity and knowledge through the whole time, curse or no curse...

At the beginning of the curse he didn't remember, so he would forget if he crossed the line.
