Michael Caine has played such a wide variety of characters in his movies. I thought I'd just share some of my favorite ones. His performances of Alfred Pennyworth in "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" are the best portrayals of Alfred I've ever seen. I don't think anyone could play him better. I loved his performance of Inspector Abberline in "Jack the Ripper." I found myself more interested in the life of Abberline than in what Jack the Ripper was doing. I think that says a lot for his performance. The role of Alfie couldn't have been a more perfect role for him. I think many people think of him as Alfie still. In the movie "Sleuth" he's played both of the two lead roles, Milo Tindle in the 1972 version and Andrew Wyke in the 2007 version. He shined in both of them. It was great seeing him in the 2007 version with Jude Law playing the role originally done by Michael. I must say Jude Law has done great in both of the roles he's played that were originally played by Michael Caine...Alfie and Milo Tindle. I adored Michael Caine in "Secondhand Lions." He brought such warmth and humor to Garth. One of my most favorite characters is Lawrence Jamieson in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." His laid back humor is perfect in that movie and the chemistry he has with Steve Martin works great. That movie never gets old. He plays the father figure wonderfully in movies such as "Bewitched" and "The Weather Man." His performance as Cutter in "The Prestige" is awesome. As the movie's director Nolan said, "Michael Caine’s character really becomes something of the heart of the movie. He has a wonderful warmth and emotion to him that draws you into the story." I couldn't agree more. Michael Caine has such versatility. He plays a psychotic in "Dressed to Kill," a vicious gangster in "Get Carter," and a thief in "Flawless." I really don't think there's a role he couldn't do.....and do extremely well. Another great thing about his roles is that he doesn't care how he looks in them, such as Jasper in "Children of Men." Whatever the role calls for he delivers and delivers it well.
