	velvet_fox picked Plenty: OMGosh I can't believe neither of Meryl's collaborations with Fred Schepisi and Sam Neil aren't on here! :O Anyways, Plenty is my complete and utter favourite film of all time. With the exception of Sophie's Choice I've never been more captivated by a performance as that of Meryl's slowly maddening Susan Traherne. It's a Fantastic character study and examination of life in post war Britain. Plenty gets sadly overlooked due to the epic that is Out of Africa which was released the same year and it shouldn't. Despite my love for OoA I think Meryl's work on Plenty was beautifully touching and far more compelliing than Karen Von Blixen. And yes I prefer Susan/Lazars story to Denys/Karens as well. They were like screwed up but terribly romantic at the same time. Cufflinks anyone? Really it was love at first sight, an obcession which stood the test of 20 years. Just a shame in the end that 20 years was too long for anything to be truely salvaged. Both of them became too damaged and lost. :( posted over a year ago. last edited over a year ago

In essence, the script was ok and the story interesting, but what really made the movie was the cast, and of course Meryl's stunning performance. She has that power of REALLY making people believe she's the character she's playing. As Jim Carrey said on the AFI ceremony: "What are you woman???? YOU SHAPESHIFTER!!!!" his speech to her was hillarious but at the same time adorable and described very well her talent. posted over a year ago.
