Relationship crisis

First of all, my boyfriend broke up with his ex before we started dating. He recently told me he needs some space. My friend told me he still had feelings for his ex, and i knew it was true, because he hangs out with her now, not me.
How can I get him to love me again, like we did when we first started going out?
