Love Question

Am I needy?

My boyfriend and I are freshman in college and we met about a month ago. Both of us are living in the dorms and basically had to start fresh as far as friends as we knew nobody. But since then we have both made friends and have basically combined the people we have met into one big giant group. This is fantastic, but the problem is, it seems that he wants to spend a lot more time in a big group than just me alone. I wish we had more alone time but am afraid to suggest it most of the time. I really don't mind hanging in a big group, but sometimes I want it to be just us. Is it unfair that I think this, or do I have reasonable desires? And if I'm NOT just clingy, how do I tell him that I want to spend more time alone?

It's completely normal that you want to have some alone time with your boyfriend. The only thing you can do is talk to him about it. You should say: "I really enjoy the time we spend with our friends but I'd be happy if we could have some alone time." If he thinks you're being clingy explain to him how every couple needs some intimacy and privacy in their relationship just as they need their time with friends. I'm sure he'll understand.

I don't think you're needy. Everyone wants to spend alone time with their boyfriend/girlfriend in new relationships. I think you should talk to him. Because a guy in college not wanting to spend time alone with his new girlfriend who is really into him can't be the case. You never know, maybe he feels like you're the one who wants to spend time with you're friends more than alone with him and he's too afraid to say anything. But you'll never know until you get his side of the story.
