Once you get to know him better, ask him out, but not on a date first, maybe just a casual meet-up with some friends, in a group would be best, so he can see that in your friends' eyes you are a good catch and a nice girl. When on that meet-up take some time to talk to him privately, flirt a little if you want, compliment him and just have fun.
Then once that is done, try asking him out, just the both of you, keep it somewhere simple, maybe a dinner and a movie. It isn't cliche because it is a simple and lovely date, where the both of you can talk and just get to know each other better.
