I go to school with the most redundant homophobic boys with the most limited vocabulary. Normally I don't freak out when the word "gay" is used as an insult but they do it so unbearably carelessly and overuse it to the point where it drives me mad.

Also they don't bash gays because they legitimacy think homosexuality is a sin or some crap. They do it to be cool and funny.

Same with Part_of_the_sky. Only, they do it to be cool & also because they think homosexuality is disgusting.
Ugh, you have no idea what kind of hell I'm living in.

Rarely, and certainly not everyday.
I can see gay insults all over the internet, but that's for stupid cowards biggots who are protected by their screen...

You wouldn't believe how often I hear this phrase. It's so sickening. The people at my school are idiots and major jerks. They tease people that are different or people that stick up for the people that are getting picked on. I am one of those people that try to help but it's hard because I get bullied as well. Over time I've grown use to the abuse and eventually stopped caring what other people thought of me. I guess you can say that I'm sort of immune to their idiocy.

People resort to this when they're desperate for popularity. Unfortunately, around here, it works.

Too well...I respond to them with this: Why yes! what an amazing observation young homo-sapien! (Whatever they're calling gay) is VERY happy and elated INDEED. Now move along and be a moron elsewhere before you get confused at my large words.

And if I don't have time for that, I just say: Yes, that is SOOO straight! Or that is SOOO (describe that person's attire).

I hear gay slurrs so much it's almost unbearable for me. I am straight, but I have so many gay people in my life that I love. I am in a high school where people don't think before they speak. They feel that they need to use such an ignorant vocabulary just to be cool.

I get so angry when I hear such things as, "That's so gay!" or "You're so gay!" or even the gay slurr that rhymes with maggot. I refuse to use that word in any form; it makes me sick to my stomach when I hear people use that word especially. It's hurtful. Gay people are people too and they deserve respect.

Some of the most important people to me are gay. I love them with all my heart and they are like family to me. I will defend them and support them until the day I die. I will defend them against my other friends, my family, classmates, strangers, anyone. I will stand up for the LGBT community always.

Most people don't do it around me, because I always have a nice sarcastic comment afterwards.

I hear people saying things are 'gay' sometimes, but I don't take really see that as an insult. I say it myself. I'm sorry if it offends any of you but I just always have.

When my girlfriend and I are out we tend to get more strange looks than straight out insults.

Actually, a lot less nowadays. A couple of years ago I heard people use "gay" as an synonym for "bad" quite often. School was the worst place for hearing this (especially during my mid teens), but even adults can be prone to this too.

The main thing I hear nowadays is confusion when it comes to LGBT issues. For example, when people don't understand that your orientation is not a choice. I don't think they mean it in an offensive way though, and many of them will quite happily listen if you try to explain to them. There's also a lot of confusion when it comes to asexuality, and also towards anyone who doesn't identify as cis. The difference is though, a lot of people I know don't actually seem to make fun of LGBT identifying people as much anymore; there's confusion and lack of understanding, but not as many slurs and insults.

Personally, I find the worst place for these kinds of insults is in TV sitcoms, especially the American ones. Even in the newer shows! Basically, if someone says something homophobic in real life I find it standing out, but if it happens on a TV show, it feels like the norm and I'm almost expecting it. Yikes.

So I guess you could say my answer changes on a day-to-day basis. Depends on how much TV I've been watching that day!

this is actually one of the primary reasons i'm so relieved that i won't be attending public school any longer, just hearing this occur one more time may be the straw the breaks the camel's back for me.

of course among the internet community i associate with it's been adapted as a blanket term for practically anything on the lgbt+ spectrum and gets thrown around as a compliment, so that gives the experiences addressed some more relief

I do sometimes online, but that's pretty much it. I've never had someone use gay insults on me, though. Which I'm thankful for that at least.
