But I remember, years ago, quite frequently fantasising what life would be like if I'd been born a boy, to the point where I started to question my own gender. It didn't last long though when I came to terms with the fact that I didn't actually feel out of place with my body or anything; I was just fed up working a job that typically only men do and constantly having clients make assumptions about me the second they found out my name and before receiving any work from me. Turned out I had no problem with being my assigned gender, it was other people who had problems with it!
I've also read quite a lot of things on the internet (including this site) where people have asked if they could be transgender because they have certain unstereotypical hobbies and interests. Admittedly, I take everything I read on the internet with a pinch of salt, but it's no secret how prominent and powerful gender roles are forced upon society, so it wouldn't really surprise me if those poor people really are mistaking gender roles for actual gender.
