yui1234 picked Giyuu :
[Major Spoilers for anime ahead, don't read if not a manga reader]

I know it will enrage a lot of fans as Giyuu is a fan favorite but I think the mangaka missed big time with Giyuu. His backstory should have been more fleshed. He has the least explored backstory out of all the Hashiras. His big sister and best friend are rarely used for the emotional value later on. Only once and it's just one small panel when it could have been used so well. His survivor guilt, his inferority complex, him struggling to show emotions and so many things was never utilized for his character development. It was just mentioned and then that's it. No proper development as well, it's just in the air. We didn't see Giyuu coming in terms of his flaws and accepting and rectifying them, what he thinks of himself and life in general after the battle and him being a survivor . Just a panel of Giyuu smiling in the end and we are supposed to take his development out of it. Unlike Sanemi where he could be seen caring of Nezuko indicating a clear character change. He could have done much more during his fight with Akaza showing us new moves and his intelligence in battle field instead of just unlocking his mark but it's understandable that Tanjiro was there so the mc will carry the fight. But he was sidelined in the main last fight too. Everyone does something big on their own (Iguro fights Muzan for most of the time, Mitsuri saves Tanjiro by cutting off Muzan arms by her raw strength, Sanemi and Gyomei showed their powers by inflicting major damage on Muzan from time to time) but when Giyuu tries his sword slips from his hands. It was frustrating to be honest. Like let him do something important rather than just being a helping hand for others. He even fails to protect the ordinary slayers when Muzan took his last fetus form, it was Sanemi who cut off Muzan's hand clean with one strike to save others even tho it is implied both Sanemi and Giyuu are of equal strength. I know Giyuu only had one hand, but it could have been used to show how strong he is if he was the one to do it. Giyuu literally has the least feats as Hashira in the final battle alongside Mitsuri tho it is shown that Giyuu is much stronger than her. And don't get me started with when Tanjiro becomes demon. Goutouge could have used Giyuu and Tanjiro's relationship which was building from starting so well, the conflict would have been good but we didn't get to see much of it either. Giyuu's reaction wasn't that emotional as it should have been in my opinion. In the end, it wasn't even Giyuu who saves Tanjiro, it's Kanao with Shinobu's medicine.

All in all, Gotouge didn't try to write Giyuu well as it seems to me. But even after all this, I don't hate him at all. He's an okay character for me.
