According to Fox (I asked) House episodes are taking twice as long to make due to High Def regulations. They also said that they normally order like 24 episodes (can't remember exact amount). They said that they are also trying new format of airing a few new ones together than a few weeks off instead of old format of one week new than next week rerun to fill up the season.
