This is when you ride in a "treeless" saddle. Most saddles have what is called a saddle tree, this is what gives the saddle it's shape, and if not fitted correctly to the horse can cause some discomfort. Treeless saddles do not have a saddle tree, these saddles move with the horse and may be considered more comfortable for both the horse and rider.
