Hetalia Question

Why aren't there many MALE HETALIA FANS (much more cosplayers)?

Why is it that boys are overwhelmingly outnumbered by the girls in the Hetalia fandom? Shouldn't they like the show more, having men in military uniforms as the characters. And shouldn't they like it having history of wars as the basis of the story?

You have a good point. Hetalia is basically a parody of the world's history. However, you have to consider how people come to discover the anime. They might stumble across it on anime streaming sites, where there is usually strictly the show itself. No fan bias is usually present. They might discover it by seeing fan art on sites like Tumblr or Zerochan. What I think is going on is many potential male fans are scared off by fan art, which a great deal of it is pairings. It probably makes them think Hetalia is a yaoi. However, if you are already a fan and have seen all of the anime and/or read all of the manga, you know it's not. But that's a hard thing for them to get past.
So I say if you are trying to get a male friend to join the fandom, keep them away from the fan art. At least until you get them to finish the anime. That way they realize it's just the fans having fun and not an actual part of the show.
And I'm not saying all the fan art is aimed at the female audience, there's a great deal of awesome art out there. But you know how alot of guys are. Gotta stay tough looking. XP

You're right there. That's most likely it. When I introduced Hetalia to my younger bro I only told him that Hetalia is what you read in your history book and that it is a comedy and that it has fun character songs, and that it has awesome characters like Prussia and Germany and funny ones like the Italy brothers and Spain, and cute ones like Chibitalia (They're his favorites.) But he didn't know about the yaoi and pervy parts.

It's true, there are even some girls who aren't fans of the yaoi parings (like me)

Well, I support the yaoi pairings more like because of the comedy rather than the romance.

I don't support the yaoi pairings, and I don't really hardcore support any (Okay... I like PruHun, but it's not like I'm going to shove it in your face and make sure that everybody knows.) I'm scared that my friend who recently got into Hetalia is going to find out the fangirl yaoi side and drop it. Just hoping she looks past the more rabid side of the fanbase and enjoys Hetalia for what it was intended to be. ;n;

My brother is a fan too, because of me. But since he don't read the manga he doesn't know that it has some obscene parts and it has some hint of yaoi.

Well I know two guys who like it, but they're fairly young. The one other dude friend I got to watch it doesn't like it much because with the history theme going, he thought there would be some sort of fighting. Instead he got silliness and shounen-ai. It really is a girls show, being a world of all good looking guys. Now if it had been all big-boobed, air-headed chicks, there would be waaaaay more guy fans.

I believe that it is become the fandom.The fandom is mostly yaoi,pairings and how hot the guys are.I'm sure if the fandom hadn't gotten so men based,that more male fans would hop on.Also,how dedicated how the female fans get scares away male fans.For instance,at my cousin's school,the female fans are absolutely obessesed,and do many things for the show that scraes my cosuin.So,now he wont even watch the show.(For his sake,I try to keep Hetalia away from him.)I mewn,a fandom with pictures like these would scare away any guy!(Its soft yaoi---but it is yaoi!And it might just be me,but it looks like Su-san is grabbing Finland's butt!))

Probably the fandom. There's so much yaoi in the fandom that when dudes ran into the fandom, they assumed the anime/webcomic itself was also a yaoi? Or it might be because it's not badass enough or something. Shit, that's the best answer I can give.
