I think it was nothing more than a "sign" that the diary's nagging was annoying him too much.

Ah... But it only nags when it is opened, right? Do you remember that get-well card Ginny made for Harry in PoA? The one that sang shrilly whenever it was opened, so he kept it under a bowl of fruit on his nightstand in the hospital wing? Nothing from Harry about wanting to toss that into the fire.

Hadn't the diary fallen open by accident? I can't remember if that scene was the same as the one where he wanted to burn it, but I do remember it falling to the floor and starting to nag him on one occasion.

Anyway, wouldn't the parallel you mention above be more supportive of Hinny than Harmony? He wants to burn something Hermione gave him because it annoys him, but he only hides something Ginny gave him which annoyed/embarrassed him.
