Firefly Since it's unlikely there will be more Firefly, does it annoy you that Joss refuses to reveal Inara's secret?

Bugs me! I want to know for sure.
The mystery I mean for those who don't know, is both Inara's past what hapened to her to send a respectable companion somewhere like Serenity, and also what was that stuff she got out when they thought the ship might be attacked by reavers? A fan asked Joss if it was just a suicide pack so she could kill herself rathr than be raped and eaten by reavers (which is what I assumed it was) and he said that's not what it was.

I'm more interested in what that stuff was than her past. I can't think of an explination for something that she would only get out in a reaver attack, that wasn't to kill herself before the reavers got her. It drives me crazy trying to figure out what it could be. Grrrrrr.
This kinda ranty dorking was written after watching a bunch of shortlived shows which didn't have time to wrap everything up (why did I do that to myself?) so there's no actual annoyance. logically I get it's likely less 'Joss refuses to reveal' like I put it, and more 'there's yet to be an outlet worthy' and really, I'd rather get the full story in something like a comic than just said in an interview. I was just filled with cancelled show trauma when making the pick, lol.

It makes me hope (however stupidly) that he will tell the story someday in a Serenity sequel or continuation of the show- or even a comic book or novel. Besides if he just revealed it in an interview or something what would be the fun of that? There's been FF comics so at least there's solid hope that it could be told in that format.

Hope interest in the mystery doesn't slip before it gets comiced or enough for them not to bother. Then I'll never know! Which will of course force me to stalk Joss like a deer, kidnap him and demand answers. That would be an inconveniance to both of us, him with the trauma, me with the inevitable prison sentance.
Ok, I'm not really anywhere near curious or mental enough for stalky insanity. Still pretty interested though ;)

Edit: Have heard the explination now, which I love and think fits great. Sad it never had time to be covered properly in the show, I'd love to see it explored in a comic.

lol Don't go all Annie Wilkes on him, Asvini! Joss will find a way to tell the story! He got a movie made from a tv show that was canceled before it ran a full season. He's like a demigod or something. =D

her past didn't really bother me at all. if joss wanted us to know, we would. .....

i was watching the commentary on that episode, the one with the "suicide pack", and yeah, joss mentions that it isn't infact a suicide pack, but something that could be introduced if things didn't go the way things went, i the emd joss said they didnt need to use it and because it still fit in with the story line that they would let people asume what they want to!

grr, damn him and his awsomeness.
watch the comentary if ytou get around to it :)

I always thought it was because she had some sort of terminal disease. But is a fun little mystery. I also want to know about Book, there is defiantly something interesting going on there.

Joss has revealed the mystery. Juniper427 hit it square on the head.
and yeah i always wondered about Book too. i've always assumed he used to be part of the Alliance in some military/cop capacity but got tired of the life and just up and quit and tried to redeem himself by becoming a Shepard.

Inara left Serenity because she was dying, and her death would have impacted the crew if she stayed aboard.
