Final Fantasy XIII Question

After I beat the game, how do the mechanics work?

Like, I know how it ends and whatnot, but I need to know what I can DO after I beat the game. Does it but back at the Orphan's Cradle hub with all the portals, or am I going to be stuck on Gran Pulse?

It asks you to save your progress but i don't remember exactly where it puts you but you can still use the portals in the Cradle and go to Pulse.
