I admit it does have an affect on how I view a movie, but sometimes great visuals are still not enough to make me like a film. But yes sometimes the art direction can definitely make me like the movie more than I otherwise would.

Ditto. There are times when, if a movie is visually very interesting or beautiful, it can keep my attention in a way just the story itself wouldn't have. Not always, if a movie is bad or boring it wouldn't be enough. It also depends on what type of movie it is and what I was expecting from it I think.
And there are quite a few movies I wouldn't have even watched in the first place if the look hadn't caught my attention.
