FanFiction.net Question

I'm just curious, what does it mean if you follow a fic that's already been finished? Does that mean ff will notify you if it's been moved or updated or does it mean anything at all?

Fanfics can get moved?

I have no idea. It was a guess. I know fictionpad will import stories from ff but no idea if they'll notify followers. It was just an example.
