1. Congrats on winning Fan of the Month! How does it feel?
Thank you! It feels really amazing. I actually was Fan of the Month once, back in the old Fanpop days when the Fan of the Month was still fairly new. Although, back then, once you won once, you couldn't be nominated ever again, so I actually never thought I would get to be Fan of the Month again, which makes it all the more of an honor for me.
2. We know you love Moana and Ariel, do you have any other favorite princesses?
If you mean of the official Disney Princesses, I'd say Mulan, Pocahontas, and Tiana are the ones I'm absolutely in LOVE with, and Rapunzel to a slightly lesser extent. Other princesses in fiction I love are Melody (Y'all know that she's my girl), Azula, Odette, Anastasia/Anya, Fiona, Elsa (Technically a Queen but details, details), Emma Swan, and Snow White (Once Upon a Time), just to name a few.
3. What is your favorite thing about the Disney Princess franchise?
I don't think this answer counts but the fandom. I'm biased with this because of how I love this club so much and have so many memories. I'm not as active as I used to be but I keep on trying to get more active, though things keep getting in the way. But I refuse to die off from Fanpop. However, if I was to give a more conventional answer, it would be how they are all promoted as having their own form of strength that is meant to inspire others. Not to mention some really great music. I still sometimes jam out to If You Can Dream.
4. How did you find fanpop and what made you join?
Well, it's kind of embarrassing because it was actually quite a shallow thing that helped me find it. I was looking for things related to the hottest Disney women, which led me to some articles and a particular poll on Fanpop. I would visit those a few times and one day when I was at home sick, I took the time and joined. I guess being able to ask questions was very interesting to me, even though, if you look at myself during my first year and a half on Fanpop, you'd see that I was an absolute NIGHTMARE! I'm really surprised that my account didn't get deleted from how many times other users probably reported me (Which I bet was A LOT). But I'm glad I didn't get my account deleted because this place is like my home.
5. What is your favorite Disney Halloween movie? (or a Disney movie you love to watch on Halloween)
Hocus Pocus! That movie is SO QUOTABLE! It's hilarious, the three witches are awesome and played by such incredible actresses, the good guys are decently interesting enough (My favorite of the good guys is Dani), is really holds up, is so full of life and energy, the practical and special effects still look great even today, has two great songs (Since it only has two songs), and is just an absolute CLASSIC!
6. What is your favorite...
a. Disney remake?
I've gone back and forth on this between Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Mulan. But I went with Cinderella because I feel like it managed to update the fairy-tale almost flawlessly. It is, in my opinion, BY FAR superior to the original because it keeps its focus on what the original didn't but should have, Cinderella, the prince, and the chemistry that's supposed to bloom between them. The original is still a great movie but it's not very focused and lets the side characters hijack the film. Not to mention that it's the most visually gorgeous looking of all the live-action remakes.
b. Disney remake actor/actress?
This is an easy one, Glenn Close as Cruella DeVil. This was one of the most PERFECT casting choices of ALL TIME and not just from Disney. Her evil laughter was absolute PERFECTION! She didn't only give a great performance and manage to capture the spirit of the character, she truly IS Cruella. She even said that dogs were afraid of her and wouldn't come near her when she was dressed as the character. THAT is impressive! Her performance as Cruella is truly iconic.
c. Scene added to a remake?
The introduction to Cruella/Anita in Cruella's office. That scene was just FLAWLESS! The way Cruella is slowly revealed and how her entire face isn't shown until after she's behind Anita and turns around to see her behind her. She remained silent and cold to everyone who greeted her, even knocking some ash onto a guy's shoes, but suddenly becomes scary friendly to Anita, with her iconic "Anita, darling!" It showed how intimidating she was and was just the perfect way to introduce her. The office scene also showed a glimpse of just how psychotic she is. She was actually laughing like a lunatic at the thought of looking as if she was wearing someone's pet. This helped Anita be the one to realize that Cruella was the one who stole the puppies and why instead of being so clueless like in the animated film.
d. Song written for a remake?
Speechless! The message is relatable and amazing, I feel a strong connection because of how people often try to silence me to conform to societal standards, the instrumental music is fantastic, and Naomi Scott's singing is AMAZING (Especially in the movie where she sings the Part 2 version where she can really belt).
7. Is there a mythological creature Disney hasn't shown yet that you wanna see? (Hippogriff, Kappa, etc)
Hippogriff.
8. What is your favorite thing about the DP spot?
As I've mentioned many times in the past, it's the amazing community. While not as strong as before where everyone felt like a family, it's still a great community.
9. Is there an animated heroine (Disney, Don Bluth, Dreamworks, etc) you think deserves to be a Disney Princess?
Odette from The Swan Princess. For those of you who don't know, The Swan Princess almost became a Disney movie. Richard Rich wanted to badly to adapt Swan Lake that he kept trying to get it to happen while he was working at Disney, but it never happened. So for those who say The Swan Princess is a Disney knock-off that was trying to capitalize off the success of the Disney formula, that was because Richard Rich had a clear vision for the film ever since he worked at Disney. So it wasn't trying to capitalize off the formula because it was a 100% passion project. It was a labor of love, that was sadly crushed thanks to The Lion King. Honestly, while the animation is great, it has likable characters, beautiful songs, and Hans Zimmer's lush score, I don't think it aged as well as The Swan Princess, which feels more timeless. It has its flaws but is still one of my favorites. Plus, Odette is a fantastic character that isn't just good and kind but also strong and spunky. She's not just standing up for herself but also for the well-being of her people by not submitting to Rothbart. She has self-respect and wants more than to just be loved for her looks. She was deconstructing fairy-tale tropes LONG before Elsa.
10. Is there an actor or actress you'd love to see in a Disney movie?
OOOOOH! That's a hard and interesting one. If the MCU counts, I would LOVE to see Bella Thorne as Jean Grey/Pheonix. She'd be PERFECT! She has the right look, is a brilliant actress with a wide range, can play the sweet girl but also play a villainess, and she has played characters with mental problems in the past. Plus, with the tragic life she's lived, she says she finds it easy, especially to cry, because of all her emotional baggage. She'd be perfect for the role.
I do A LOT of fancasts but I guess some things I'd also LOVE to see would be Elizabeth Gillies as Megara, Anika Noni Rose as the Muse of Tragedy, Jennifer Morrison as Helga Sinclair, and Anneliese van der Pol to voice a Disney Princess.
