Realistically, it would have been good for the tribe. She's the daughter of the tribe, so it can be assumed that she's next to take the throne so to speak. Next in charge of the tribe. For that reason, it's smart to have Kokoum by her side. It was obvious that he was well liked and respected by her father and the tribe. He was trusted and strong. Realistically for her tribe, she should have. Which would have been hard for her because she wouldn't have been happy but who knows, it may be that she may have soon come to fall in love with him, had that happened. It's giving me ideas for a fan fiction. I might write it now. =)

As far as the Disney version goes, I agree. IRL, she did marry him, but wasn't anywhere near being next in line to take up her father's position.
