Why do people say Mulan isn't a princess she is because Mulan is a Disney Princess because she saved China and the Emperor honored her giving Mulan royalty. T.B.H I'm asian. Also why is she not popular merchandise!
Wow..I always wondered "Sure Mulan isn't really a princess is she!?" now I realise why she is..so thank you ....personally Mulan is one of my favourites(although they change all the time!!)..I think her merchandise is popular... it should be especially in China!!!! Maybe because little girls find beautiful princesses with glamorous dresses and siver/golden crowns better!!!
Well, she isn't a princess, i love her very much but she is on the bottom of my list because she isn't same for pocahontas and Merida is really pixar, and she is not popular so disney isn't making money of of her, she not a princess but she is a heroine, her merchandise isn't that much because little girls tend to like girly princesses with, fancy ball gowns plus she is an under developed princess so :/ I Love MULAN!!!!!!! <3 BTW I'm Native American and i still don't think Pocahontas should be a DP, and the emperor didn't make her royalty if you don't have the blue blood you cant be royalty but he did give her nobility so,yeah hope this was helpful
Well, a lot of people aren't accustomed to eastern cultures (China, Japan, India, ect.) so the concept is foreign to them. She isn't very popular on merchandise because she doesn't look "princessy" enough, when compared to Aurora, Cindy, Belle, ect.
Mulan isn't actually royalty, but she was probably included as a Disney Princess because of her ethnicity and the popularity of the movie. I'm not sure why she and Pocahontas are rarely used in the merchandise. I wish they were advertised more. Nonetheless, I'm personally very happy that she's a Disney Princess. My favorite actually! I have always thought of her as one, and always will.

When someone tells me that Mulan (or Pocahontas or Merida) isn't a DP, I tell thrm to look at the official website.
^to the native americans, yes. But they only had power over their colonies. Two royals from their colon wouldn't get married and be deemed king and queen. So poca isnt royalty.
she is granted ultimate honor and a high tanking position in the military not royalty. therefore not a princess but a character that should be recognized more.

well said. I say the same thing. There are many ranks equal to Princess and same respect as one.
People arent educated. And they need to say in my opinion more. Being the daughter of a renowned war hero is like Princess level or marrying a general ( Shang) is like being a Princess. Same with Pocahontas. Being the daughter of a Chief is the same status as a Princess. There are many levels equal to Princess, not all cultures use the term Princess. Its about honor and prestige. Which both Pocahontas and Mulan have. So they should be honored and respected just as much as the other Princesses because they come from respected families.
Okay.. Mulan is a role model for little girls..so that's my opinion on how she became a princess. Some girls think princesses have beautiful gowns and such.. but that isn't true. I love Mulan but in my list she isn't a princess. She is a role model for me!
Like you said the Emperor kind of honored her to princess. I think the main point why she wasn't left out like Esmeralda and Jane was because she's good role model.
I don't like that she's so ignored in merchandise, but I understand they have to focus on what little girls like. Merchandise is for them after all. Currently it seems like they turn everyone glittery little fairies and Mulan (and Pocahontas) doesn't really fit there. They're now concentrating more of the princess theme, dresses and accesories and less and less about their stories.
Well that's how I see it anyway.
