Is cinderella French or Italian

The name Cinderella was adapted from the French name Cindrillon which means "little ash girl." She is called this in Perrault's version of the tale. However there are many different versions of the tale throughout all cultures of the world - everything from China's "Yeh-Shen" to the Native American's "The Turkey Girl."
