Does Esmeralda count as a princess?

I just answered a the "Does Jane count as a princess?" So I will just modify my answer a little because it is similar to that one. I think she is more of an extended princess. Not a princess in Disney's opinion and she is not royalty but she is with the Captain of the Guard, who is highly distinguished and was given golden armour. I think she counts as a leading lady and extended princess like Jane, Kida, and Meg.

I would call her a Disney heroine as she is not really a princess. Same with Pocahontas, Mulan, Jane, and anyone else I'm not thinking of right now who falls under this category!
