Disney Princess Question

Why didnt people like voodoo in the princess and the frog?

I don't care for voodoo but why were people upset at the princess and the frog with the voodoo?

I'm curious as well. Like I said I think they're just the same with sorcery/witchcraft yet no one seems to hate those.

i think it was a bit much though. I mean Maleficent and Ursula used magic and such much none of it required blood rituals. It just seemed a bit much plus it scared my little brother so it might not have been age appropriate for young kids.

yes, that was the problem. When my family and I watched the film, my siblings and I didn't mind the voodoo bad guy idea but there were a few parts that were a bit too much to the point where it scared us in a bad way.

I din think it being scary was the problem. When my 4 and 5 year old cousins at the time watched the movie, they did not find the voodoo scary at all. But I think it was because voodoo is a real thing that happened a lot down in New Orleans and the caribbean.

I'm not sure either, but maybe it has some sort of religious problem? I mean, in religions there are some who use voodoo, but there are those I've seen who look down on it. They think that it's work of the devil or something like that, or it's "satanic". However, I've only seen a comment or two of it, so I still have to research it a bit more.

Maybe it's also because it's a dark theme?

The difference is, Ursula/Maleficent using 'dark magic' isn't based off of a real, thriving religion. Voo doo is. And it was misrepresented.

I guess I was just saying why I didn't like it

Well, it's just Harry Potter for instance, the conservatives (especially the Orthodox) accuses it for black magic.

He's scary. I was 12 when I saw this film and sure I was more cowardly then most but he really creeped me out, with his weird shadow and all the creepy magic. Then again I've been scared of anything even slightly paranormal since I saw Coroline but still I didn't think he was an appropriate character for a Disney film.

They are? Oh well....if they are, I guess it has something to do with Voodoo being an actual religion, and not just random witchcraft.
