How did Ariel's mother die?

Well, it doesn't give an definate answer. The most logical answer would be that the ship that approached Ariel's family killed her. I don't know if the ship crushed her against the rocks, although that is what is suggested. But I suppose the crew could have seen her and killed her in fear, or even captured her, although it not a very likely guess. The most logical answer is that the ship crushed her against the rocks.

I know I didn't help very much, but the movie kind of leaves it open to viewer's interpreation. But it definately involved a ship.

I think the ship crashed into her while the pirates weren't paying attention. They were just catching stuff with their hooks and nets. That's what the movie shows. *shrugs*

Some say she was crushed by a pirate ship. But I say...that the pirates kidnapped her and did something with her. If she was crushed wouldn't her body be there in the water (or bleeding)? But that's just my guess.

her name is Athena. she was on a lagoon and pirates found her. she had some kind of music box. the pinned her against a rock with a ship and the ship crushed her. nice, pretty little kid movie, right? i never watched it too, so im just going on what other people said.

In the play she was killed by Ursula. In the Ariel's Beginning it seems that she was most likely killed by the ship.

From what I can gather, from the internet, Ariel's mother died from a run-in with pirates. I haven't seen "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning" so I don't know for definite.
