I think the dance was the more defining moment, for Elena. But for Damon this episode was a huge push towards his love.

I don't think the dance - I think that's when he realised he was in love with her, because the look of love he gave her when she was coming down the stairs and when they were dancing...

I was going to say the roadtrip but he was still so obsessed with Katherine. I think that's when he really started liking her but I don't think he started falling in love with Elena till about here, after he is through with Katherine, well he realized that he wasn't going to be with her anyways because she wasn't in the tomb. <3

I think this was when it first started, you can't deny the love in his eyes as he strokes her cheek. But he was still so caught up in Katherine. So I think he fell in love with her completely at the miss mystic falls dance or maybe even 'i wanted it to be real' scene.

I think this when he started to care her words effected him, and he tried to make it right

I think that he felt in love with her after 1x11,but he liked her and wanted her from the very beggining :)

I remember an interview with Ian where he said that when Elena walks down the stairs for the Miss Mystic Falls Dance and Damon moves to stand in for Stefan, that is the moment when Damon realises he's falling in love with Elena. And from the look on Damon's face I agree :)

I'd say somewhere between 1x14 and 1x19. I think in 1x11 he started to develop feelings for her as a friend, and then it just developed right up until 1x19 when she walked down the stairs and Damon was like: "Damn, I love this girl!" :P

It was definitely the beginning! You could see it starting in 1X03 when she talks to him about him losing Katherine, too. And for him to stroke her cheek, he wouldn't do that if he wasn't feeling something. But it didn't really get a chance to blossom until the road trip. The road trip wasn't the start of his feelings, but it helped to cement them.

I'm not really sure when he begin to fall for her, I think it was sometime between 1x06-1x11. in 1x13, however, is the first moment you can really see he has feelings for her. Before then it was controversial if her saw her or Katherine IMO, although I do think her was thinking about her when he watched her and Stefan dance in 1x12.

I think since the very beginning of S1 Damon cared for elena, but I think at 1x11 he began/ started falling in love with her. but the dance in 1x19 is when I think he was truly in love with her.

This episode, but the moment when she says he's sorry that he lost Katherine. Its just the look he gives her...

Their real first meeting. (the memory Damon compelled from Elena) ADORABLE! It was obvious that he wanted her from the very beginning. "You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure, and even a little danger." Tell me how this isn't a description of Damon. I think Elena was swooning ;) Ooh I even let my imagination run wild...of how I expected there to be a kiss if her parents hadn't interrupted.

He cared for her from the moment they met, but a huge difference between caring about someone and falling in love with them. Damon ddn't fall for her during their road trip either. That's when they became friends, and he treated her as such. He fell for her in 1x19, at the Miss Mystic Falls pageant. He has a change in behavior after the dance, which you can see when they lock up Stefan. He wants to be around her more because she made him feel human. He's a vampire, dancing with a founding daughter at a founding family event. That's when he starts joking about having her around as a way of masking how he truly feels. He can't stand being apart from her. It's the reason they revisit it as often as they do. Why the necklace began with Elena's signature moment in 8x7 and ended with the Miss Mystic Falls pageant in 8x9. Sybil made the mistake of going after Damon's signature moment last.
