Hey guys, I'm Hilly :D.
I know most of you probably don't know me, cause I'm not an every day contributor, but I would like to share some of my thoughts with you about the 100th episode.
There's a lot of different opinion when it comes to what that episode brings for Booth and Bones.
Well, I generally like to focus about positive things, so don't worry, this isn't one of those I-am-gonna-make-you-cry articles ;)
First of all, let's see how the episode started.
Booth brought up the L word and Brennan got all defensive.
She refused to believe that Sweets wanting to talk to them has something to do with them being in 'love'.
Brennan is throwing away even the small possibility from the start....
And then... after they told Sweets about their first case, something changed.
She started to be aware of what she actually has with Booth. And what she feared of the most, and what she didn't want to happen, was to witness Booth realizing there was something more to them than the best friends/partnership 'arrangement' they had.
Her expression after Booth had told her he was a gambler-priceless.
It was more than I could wish for.
Booth confessed he always knew they are meant to be and she reacted.
She REACTED.
She didn't say something like 'Ok. That's how you feel right now, all the dopamine blah blah blah'
or walked away.
She stayed there, tried to explain to him that she was scared and that she didn't know how to deal with all that.
Come on, it was too much for her. For someone that practically refused any kind of romantic affection, it was too much.
I never expected them to take such a huge step, how could she?
I was looking forward to only seeing that first kiss, but I've never imagined Booth to confess his feelings.
How do you think she felt?
She was practically bombarded with everything she tried to escape since the very first case they worked on together. (well, let's say, after she slapped him, that would be more accurate XD)
How could she react any other way than try to defend with 'sane' theories.
She is afraid of being abandoned. What she's more afraid of is Booth abandoning her.
Someone who means so much to her (and even more, but she won't admit) could one day leave her.
She believes that that they is coming, it's a matter of time one of them gets a new job, or gets transported to another city, well, Booth at least.
So, why prolong the inevitable?
This is when her scientist self kicks in.
There's a higher chance of him abandoning her if they start a relationship together.
That could work, but it could also NOT work.
It's too much of a risk for her, to get engaged into something so big and to know there's a chance for it to fail.
She said it herself.
She's not a gambler. She's a scientist.
And scientist don't risk.
Scientist are lonely and they are content with facts and what they can have NOW.
Not in 20,30,40 years Booth wants them to have, but NOW.
She can't risk what can be for something that is.
That's too much for her...
But, don't let this get you down. She'll come around.
If this was enough to push her to at least admit she was afraid, think about what would happen when some major-ish thing set in.
She will get there, she will open up. She will risk.
Because, before she knows it, something that could take Booth away from her could come.
And she will know that she only has one thing to do as a last resort-
and that is to risk.
And I look forward to seeing her do just that.
:D
