"Dr. Brennan, Agent Booth, what's going on between you two? And I want the truth." said Dr. Sweets impatiently. The session had just begun and Booth and Brennan were sitting quietly next to each other, leaning towards each other slightly. The past few weeks had been bliss for the both of them. Their days were spent full of secrecy and guarded movements, but their nights were full of passion and deep conversations.
"Nothing. We're the same as we've always been." replied Booth with a smile.
"Dr. Brennan? Anything to add?"
"No." said Brennan.
"You're lying. Guys, you can tell me. I'm your therapist."
The looked at each other, both thinking of what they'd do next. "It's none of your business." said Booth finally.
"Yes it is. And I'll figure out what it is soon enough. Time's up."
"Bones...You coming?" said Booth, walking over to her chair and kissing her neck.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah." she stood and met his lips with hers. After a moment she pulled back quickly, a shocked look on her face, "Crap! Someone could have seen that."
They walked out of the building and when they were almost to the car Booth took her hand in his. He's so romantic. It's almost like he can't even deal at work, with not letting on about us. But of course I don't mind. I kind of like it actually. The feeling that we might get caught is thrilling.
They picked up Chinese on the way home and when they had everything set out on the coffee table Booth started the conversation.
"So, I'm supposed to have Parker for the weekend."
"Oh. What do you have planned?" said Brennan in between noodles.
"I thought maybe we could all do something, maybe go to the aquarium or something. I figure he can know about us, right?" said Booth uncertainly.
Brennan smiled, "I'd love to go to the aquarium. And it would be nice for someone to know."
They finished eating with smiles on their faces, and their smiles continued through the rest of the week.
"Daddy!" cried Parker as Brennan opened the door.
"Hey buddy!" said Booth happily as he hugged his son.
"Thanks Rebecca, I know it's out of your way to drop him off here."
"No problem. I'll pick him up here Sunday evening. See you." replied Rebecca.
"What's for dinner?" asked Parker.
"Bones' famous mac' and cheese. It's great." said Booth, smiling.
They ate happily, chatting about Parker's school and Booth and Brennan's work. Almost like a real family.
"Look at the fish! Daddy what kind is that?"
"Umm, I'm not sure. It says on that plaque over there." said Booth, leading Parker to the plaque.
"Cool!"
Booth smiled and looked over at Brennan. Her face was surrounded with light from the tank in front of them, making her look angelic. He leaned toward her and kissed her cheek. He laced his fingers with hers, rubbing his thumb against her soft skin. Parker watched his father but kept quiet. They walked through the rest of the aquarium and ended in the cafeteria. When Brennan went to the bathroom Parker spoke up.
"Daddy, are you and Bones in love?"
Booth thought for a moment. "I think so, buddy."
"Why don't you know so?"
"Well, when you love someone, you don't always know if they love you back."
"But I love you, and I know you love me too. You tell me every time I go back to mommy's." replied Parker.
"That's different. But I know I love Bones very much, and I'm pretty sure she loves me too."
"Are you going to get married?"
"I don't know. We'll see." said Booth, shushing Parker as Brennan joined them once more.
"What?" said Brennan, looking from Parker to Booth and back again.
"Do you love my dad, Bones?" said Parker before Booth could give him a stern look.
"Yes, I do. Why?" said Brennan, turning to look at Booth as she did.
"See daddy, now you know so." said Parker, going back to his chicken nuggets.
"Nothing. We're the same as we've always been." replied Booth with a smile.
