Aren't those guys supposed to be smart?

In season four, episode 22 ( Double Death of the Dearly Departed), in the beginning: Hodgins said deadguy ownes him 20 $. Seconds after, Booth says deadguy ownes him 20 $. Can't Hodgins just give them to Booth?

Hodgins owed deadguy $20. Deadguy owed Booth $20. So Hodgins paid back deadguy, then Booth took the $20 off the corpse. Yes, Hodgins could have GIVEN Booth the money, but it's Hodgins! I thought it was funny :)
