[Honor Between Enemies.]
Inochi grunted as he desperately tried to dodge the seemingly never ending series of attacks coming from his opponent. Inochi was at a loss as to how to end this battle. It was clear that no matter how much damage he or Yvon took, neither one was going to fall before the other. If Inochi could only close the distance and get in close to Yvon, he might be able to do enough damage to finish this, but as it was, Yvon was definitely not going to let that happen. He dodged yet another deadly attack, which tore off a little of what was left of his shihakusho, and glared at the small speck that was Yvon.
“Hmm…I can’t attack him when I’m stuck attacking like this. There’s really only one way to end this. I didn’t want to have to do this just yet, but I’ve got no other choice.”
Yvon continued firing. Inochi was slowing. It was apparent that he couldn’t hold out, and truth be told, Yvon was pretty wiped as well. This battle was tough, but it was also invigorating. Inochi was one of the best opponents he had faced in quite awhile. Yvon was almost sad to see it come to an end, but that was not enough to stop him from killing his oversized opponent.
As he prepared to fire one last shot which was sure to be a direct hit, he noticed Inochi stop completely, staring at him. Yvon didn’t hesitate at all. As he fired the Tekkoudan, something exploded from the ground beneath him, at the base of the bridge. The explosion wasn’t large, but it was focused on one area. The explosion threw off Yvon’s aim, not by much, but enough for it to sail by Inochi harmlessly. As the bridge started to collapse, Yvon leapt off of it, landing safely on the ground.
”How? He didn’t move at all! He didn’t fire a single shot? How did he do that?”
Yvon thought as he turned his eyes back to Inochi, only to find that Inochi hadn’t wasted any time in closing the distance between them. Inochi appeared right in front of Yvon and aimed a devastating punch directly at Yvon’s face. Yvon split his bow into blades again and barely raised them up in time to block the attack.
Inochi’s fist, once again covered in the gauntlet of red liquid, slammed into the blades and exploded violently, sending Yvon crashing backwards into the rubble from the collapsed part of the bridge. The gauntlet quickly disappeared and Inochi raised his slingshot at the rubble, firing as powerful of a blast as he could manage. The shot hit the rubble and exploded, disintegrating anything that was in its blast radius. Inochi knew better than to think it was over and looked around warily.
Inochi’s eyes shot towards the left as an arrow was sent flying at him. He managed to dodge by jumping backwards and spun around to block Yvon’s next attack from the rear. Yvon’s blade slammed into Inochi’s slingshot and Inochi was knocked back a couple yards. Inochi skidded to a stop in midair and fired another shot at Yvon, who cleanly dodged the attack, appearing above Inochi and slashing down in an attempt to cleave him in two. Inochi fired a shot which exploded a foot before it would have hit Yvon, clouding his vision with smoke. Inochi took that opportunity to flash step to a better position on the ground.
Yvon fired a Tekkoudan through the smoke which Inochi dodged while simultaneously reforming the red gauntlets. He shot towards Yvon, who fired another Tekkoudan at him. Inochi cursed and punched the Tekkoudan as hard as he could; creating an explosion that sent him crashing into the ground. Several droplets of the red liquid fell onto the ground where it seemed to be absorbed into the ground. Inochi sat up and shook his head.
“Damn…I really hate fighting the ones that can hit both hard and fast.”
Inochi sat up and looked at Yvon, who was standing in the air looking at him. Inochi flash stepped behind Yvon and aimed a bunch at the small of his back, but Yvon dodged it with a backflip. Yvon fired another bout of Tooriame arrows at Inochi halfway before he completed the backflip. Inochi did a quick flip himself, which put enough distance between him and the arrows for him to flash step mostly out of the way. Inochi fired several shots to hit any arrows that came his way, while at the same time firing at Yvon.
“Just a little bit more…” Inochi muttered under his breath. He returned to the ground and Yvon did the same. It was then when Inochi got the message. He turned his head slightly. “This explains much of my earlier feelings…” His eyes narrow as he contemplates the complexity of this discover, simultaneously gripping his zanpakuto tightly.
Yvon smiled. “So you know…”
Inochi smiled in turn. “I suspected it all along. Not hard to guess. So you were chosen as my opponent long before this fight began.”
Yvon: “Naturally.”
Inochi: “Yet I don’t see why you would be so shocked if you already knew everything about me and my fighting style.”
Yvon’s smile turned to a frown. “Who do you take me for? I’m not like those other guys. I’m loyal to the Juzo Hosho, that’s for sure, but I would never lower myself as to give myself such unfair advantages over my opponent just for the sake of winning.”
Inochi: “Lucky me. I got the honorable one.”
Yvon: “That being said, I will not only defeat you, but I will destroy you. This battle with decide everything, so give it your all.”
Inochi: “I tend to avoid giving my all in most pursuits, with the exception of drinking, but I guess it is only fair.” *As he said it, the ground at Yvon’s feet exploded yet again. Yvon cursed and leaped into the air, dodging most of the blast, but movement to his left caught his eye.
Yvon: “Damn it!”
He spun around, but was too late and Inochi’s gauntlet slammed into him with all the force Inochi could muster in his tired out state. Yvon was sent crashing into the ground, making the whole ground shake with the force of the impact. Inochi sighed, breathing rather heavily.
Inochi: “Yup…best to end this one quickly.”
