Ch 6:
Jay got into the airport a few hours later. He remembered Steve would be at National Geographic, so he didn't bother calling his friend and ask him if he could come to the airport and pick him up. After getting off the plane and getting his luggage from the luggage claim, Jay went to get a rental car.
After driving away from the airport, Jay remembered he didn't have any keys to Steve's apartment.
"That's right. I can't get to Steve's apartment if I don't have my own set of keys," Jay said to himself.
He now was on the highway. He was going to National Geographic and ask his friend for a pair of house keys. He knew the way to National Geographic pretty well. It was well outside of the Strip, where Jay used to perform Elvis. Once he got onto the Strip, Jay saw all sorts of billboards. A lot of them had changed since he moved away. Billboards such as Keith Urban, Toby Keith, Donny and Marie Osmond, Gunnar Newton and others. Jay remembered Gunnar was in a relationship with Carla and he performed country music oldies. He even saw his friend Barry's billboard up there as well, but this time Barry no longer performed at the Hilton. Jay remembered Barry telling him he had moved over to the Paris Hotel and his shows are doing well.
Jay thought after getting his keys from Steve, he'd give Barry a call and let him know he was finally here in Vegas. After parking the rental in the parking lot, Jay walked into the building.
"May I help you?" the receptionist asked.
"Yes. I'm looking for Steve Griswold. Is he in?" Jay asked.
"One moment, sir. What's your name?" the dark - haired woman with glasses asked.
"Jay McCarey."
"One moment. Why don't you take a seat while you're waiting?" she asked.
Jay did what she told him and she disappeared. She came back a few seconds later.
"He'll be with you in a couple seconds, sir," she said.
"Thank you, ma'am."
"You're welcome."
Steve Griswold came into the reception room just then.
"I was told I had a visitor," Steve said, seeing Jay.
"That'll be me. I just got here from the airport. The reason I'm here is because I would like to have a pair of my own keys to your apartment," Jay said.
"You mean you just arrived from Detroit?" Steve asked.
"That's what I just said, Steve. Didn't you hear what I said?" he asked.
"Sorry. If you would've called, I would've known you just came in, and since you didn't, that kinda scared me. What we'll do is that I'll give you the house keys I use and I'll just let myself in and when I get home at five - thirty for dinner. After dinner I leave again since the series involves nighttime shots and it won't be done until eleven - thirty," Steve told Jay.
"Okay. Sounds fine with me," Jay said as Steve handed him the keys.
"See you at five - thirty," Steve said.
"Okay. See ya."
