Jay felt he would be ready to fly to Vegas tomorrow morning or the next day. Jay decided he would go to bed at an earlier time that night so he could started on the CDs he could record for his fans. He knew he would have fun working on this CD with Barry. He knew they would be talking about what song they could sing together. He remembered he performed with Barry at one concert a few years back and it was fun. He remembered it was Barry's show and not his. He remembered this show he performed with Barry the two of them didn't perform together. It was a foursome with Dolly Parton and a country star named Warren Webber. He remembered the fans enjoyed that show and it was sold out.
Nighttime had passed by quickly and Jay was up by eight - thirty the next morning. He thought he would see if he could get a flight this morning to Vegas so he called in the airport after breakfast at nine o'clock. The airport told him they had a flight scheduled for Vegas at elven - fifteen.
"Great. I'll take it," Jay said to the travel agent on the phone and was off the line.
Jay figured he'd better start packing now and be at the airport by ten - thirty. He thought he'd call Bill now so he could ask his best friend and see if Bill could drive him to the airport instead of leaving his own car there.
"Sure, Jay. I'd be happy to take you there," Bill said once he came onto the telephone.
"Thanks, Bill The flight is at eleven - fifteen," Jay said.
"Okay. I'll be at your house by ten - thirty. How's that?" Bill asked.
"Sounds good. I'll see you then."
"Great."
Now he got that taken care of, he was going to get his packing taken care of immediately. Jay remembered the lady he talked to on the phone was named Georgia Presley. He found her pleasant. He knew he had called the California travel agency instead of the Detroit travel agency.
"Oops! I called the wrong travel agency. Does it matter?" Jay asked himself as he got the suitcase from the attic.
He had finished packing by the time Bill came over to pick him up to take him to the airport. Bill rang the doorbell when Jay had zipped up his suitcase. Jay ran to the front door to answer it.
"Hi, Bill," Jay said.
"Hi, Jay. Sorry I was a bit late. I couldn't get away from Marlene. She wanted to come along but I said no because I was in a hurry to pick you up. She said to have fun in Vegas and tell Steve hello for her. She wanted to come along with you but I told her you were in Vegas for your music," Bill said.
"That's true. I'll give Steve her message," Jay said as the two friends headed for Jay's bedroom, which was the master bedroom.
"That's all you're taking with you?" Bill asked.
"Yeah. I have my CD player in the my carry - on," Jay said.
"Okay. Sounds good to me," Bill said.
The guys walked out of the house together as they got the suitcase and Jay had his carry - on bag out of the house and locked the door behind themselves. They put the suitcases They put the suitcase in the trunk and the two friends got into the front seat of the car and Bill got into the driver's seat and the two men buckled their seatbelts and they drove away from the McCarey house.
"Guess what I accidently did, Bill?" Jay asked as they got onto the highway.
"What?" Bill said.
"I accidently called the California travel agency instead of the Detroit travel agency to get a ticket for Vegas."
"Shame on you," Bill said.
"I know. My bad," Jay said.
"Yeah, it was," Bill said.
"Why would you call California and not here?" Bill asked.
"I don't know. I guess I wasn't thinking correctly," Jay said.
"Guess you weren't. What could you be thinking about that made you call California?" Bill asked.
"I don't know. The woman I talked to on the phone was named Georgia Presley. Do you think she was one of Elvis's cousins?" Jay asked.
"I guess she wasn't told to me about from my fans when I used to impersonate Elvis. I only heard about Coach Presley, his ex - wife, Stephanie and Patti Presley who is now known as Patti Jones. I've never heard of Georgia. I'll have to look her up when I'm at Steve's house. More trivia to add to," Jay said.
"She's part of the family all right," Bill said.
"Why don't you tell me about her since you're so smart?" Jay asked.
"We don't have time for that today, Jay. You're headed for Vegas. I don't know much about Georgia. You can read about her online when you're out in Vegas," Bill said.
"Okay. I'll call you once I get there," Jay said.
"Okay. I might be home. If I don't answer, that will tell you I'll be working on my new novel," Bill said.
"Gotcha. I'll try to remember that," Jay said.
"If you don't get me, you might get Ms. Teenage Lover instead," Bill said, thinking of Marlene.
"Good one, Bill. I don't get why she calls me hotcakes."
"I don't either."
They finally made it to the airport and Bill parked the car. They got to the trunk and got out the suitcase and carry - on bag.
"Thanks for taking me here, Bill. I appreciate it," Jay said.
"No problem, Jay," Bill said.
They were unaware of a pink and red motorcycle pulling up next to them.
"Marlene, what are you doing here?" Bill asked, surprised to see his tenant.
"I wanted to come here so I could say good - bye to hotcakes myself," Marlene said.
"You're a bit late for that, Marlene. I already gave him your message," Bill said.
"Still, I wanted to say good - bye to hotcakes if you gave him the message or not," Marlene said.
"Have it your way," Bill said under his breath.
"What are you doing in Vegas, hotcakes?" Marlene asked.
"My manager wants me to add something to my Elvis career that I didn't do before, Marlene. I have to do it now," Jay said.
"What's that missing thing, hotcakes?" Marlene asked as the three of them walked into the airport.
"I have to record CDs for my fans."
"Good luck, hotcakes," Marlene said.
"Thanks. I've never done this before, so it's something new. I even am going to record a CD with a friend of mine out there."
"Who's that friend of yours? Anybody I heard of?" Marlene asked.
"Barry Manilow."
"I know who he is but I never listen to his music," she said.
"I've known him since I started out at the Hilton so we're good friends," Jay told her.
"I always wondered what it's like to know somebody famous like that," she said.
"You're pretty famous, aren't you? You and your racing cars," Jay said.
"In a way, yeah," Marlene said, "but not anymore. I want to go back but they won't take me."
The two best friends didn't reply to what she just said about her career. After waiting for his flight to be called, the three chatted until the flight was called.
"Have fun in Vegas, hotcakes," Marlene said.
Bill and Jay gave each other a hug.
"I will," he said as Bill and Marlene watched him walk to the gate and disappear to the plane.
"Off goes hotcakes," Marlene said to Bill.
"I don't see why you call him that," Bill said.
"Would you call somebody like that who has good looks?" Marlene asked.
"Maybe a woman but not a man," Bill said.
"Men," Marlene said under her breath.
