A folder with a question mark means it can't find a start-up disc. Use your Install or Restore CD that came with your mac. As it starts up keep your finger on the c button so the mac uses the CD as its start-up disc. When your desktop comes up, run Disc First Aid to verify your hard drive. Hopefully, it will repair any problems that come up. If not, back-up everything and erase your hard drive. Then restore your back-up.
