Anime Question

Kuroshitsuji or Black Butler

I have always wondered which one people prefer. The english title or the Japanese title?

for instance with Kuroshitsuji why do we have to go with the lit translation 'Black Butler' why can't it just be it's original Japanese one 'Kuroshitsuji' it sounds cooler

so what do you think?

I guess it sounds better, and I respect the original Japanese name. It's cool ^^

I use bother intermittently.

Most Americans slaughter the pronounciation of Kuroshitsuji by pronouncing it too slowly & enunciating certain syllables too slowly.

I's & Us are almost silent in Japanese unless the word begins or ends with them.

Correct = K'roh-sh'ts'jih.
Incorrect = Kew-row-sheet-sew-jee.

I also like Funimation's "one hell of a butler" better than "a demon & a butler," because it's a less awkward response.

@likalaruku dude Sebastian says a demon and a butler because he is trying to use something that won't give it away right away but still tell them in a way, and ya know you don't have to say "amaricans slaughter the pronounciation"

well it's true not only with americans...but with non Japanese speakers.. i have a friend who always pronounces the wrong way so i always have to correct him XD

I like kuroshitsuji better, and lol everytime someone calls it black butler in real life I freak out, I agree it sounds a lot cooler and also I HATE the English version of the anime because of the voices so that's part of why I don't like the English name

i don't tend to call it by their japanese names unless the name of an anime is only in japanese.

I like both ways.

I use black butler more only because I forget how to spell kuroshitsuji most of the time.

Other than that, it doesn't matter which title is used.

I think the connotation of Kuroshitsuji suits Sebastian better than that of Black Butler. It sounds more elegant and graceful.

I use both, and I'm careful of which I use because "Kuroshitsuji" isn't automatically recognized by many fans, since many won't know the Japanese name (saying from experience), much like when I say "Furuba" as opposed to "Fruits Basket" because "Furuba" is the shortening of the Japanese title and is a popular fanterm for the show.

But whether I say Black Butler or Kuroshitsuji, it does not save any time or space typing XD

Eh,I've always referred to the anime as Kuroshitsuji..I find it more respectful to call it that and I've only seen the anime in Japanese so that's also a reason for me. and it's better sounding in my opinion.

I'm fine with both... I don't see anything bad from it...
why is it called Black Butler?

"Kuroshitsuji"

Kuro means black
Shitsuji means butler

so yeah... you have Black Butler... it's just the same really... they just translated it.
