I believe it is unfair and unacceptable to deprive animals of their freedom just for our entertainment.

It's like a Prison for animals, it's sad to see them locked up. When me and my mom were at a zoo this cute while fox looked at us in a way that is wanted us it help me, it was the saddest moment in my life

I'm torn. On the one hand, many zoos take wonderful care of their animals, and have been a tremendous help in raising awareness and animal populations.

On the other, the animals are never (no matter how good a zoo it is) kept in the right size spaces and it's too easy to neglect them for the sake of profit.

It's easy to say "Oh those poor animals locked up in cages" and I agree that it's sad to see wild animals confined when they should be able to roam free, but the sad truth is that many animals already have or will die out in the wild as a result of habitat loss, over-hunting, and pollution, and climate change.

The good zoos have decent habitats for their animals and have captive breeding programs that help ensure the future of endangered species as well as education programs that teach people to respect wildlife. I also think people are more likely to care about the future of a species if they can actually see them up close and learn about their plight.

Are zoos the ideal place for wild animals? No, of course not. But given the choice between animals being kept in zoos or the entire species dying out, I choose zoos.

I like those zoos where animals are where they're supposed to be, not split up. It's natural for animals to do what they were meant to do.

If it weren't for zoos, many animals, such as the Black Rhinoceros, would be extinct. Zoos help certain species survive, and sometimes they re-release animals into the wild.

I guess it depends why they're in a zoo.

I presumed the question was referring to entertainment-based zoos, in which the animals are taken in for our pleasure rather than for their health. In which case I don't like those.

But I do approve of wildlife sanctuaries and nature reserves that focus on actually helping the animals. They stop extinction and even help individual animals live a longer and happier life. Some of them even release their animals back into the wild once they have recovered!

So yeah. I'm only against the ones that are solely commercial and don't actually benefit the animals' lives. You can't really lump all zoos together as they can have very different purposes, so thought I'd clear that up. ^^

Neiither. just for the reason being that animals should be running round in the wild and stuff but then if that certain species is dying out then i dont see any harm in the zoo breeding them.

I guess if they aren't in cages exactly, like in the Singapore Zoo where the enclosures are wide, almost-open spaces with some high walls or deep and wide moats, it's fine, but in general, zoos tend to cage up animals so I'm against them in the long run

It depends, I mean some animals might be extinct if it wasn't for zoos. But on the other hand for the ones who aren't even close to extinction belong out in the wild.

Many zoos actually help animals like treating them for sickness/wounds, saving endangered species, finding more research about animals, etc.

While it may seem cruel to cage an Animalbeing for any reason, I am for Zoos for one reason. If an Animalbeing say, a Sumatran Tiger, a Mountain Gorilla, Sea lion ect. is being hunted to extinction, prehaps a zoo maybe the best place to replenish the species . ie the saftey and security of a zoo may prove the best way of protecting and nurturing future generations of an endangered specie. Freedom is best, but when that freedom includes hunting, trapping, killing for the vanity of man. Zoos maybe the last recourse.

zoos arent as bd as people make them out to be, or atleast from what ive seen and heard. i love watching them from the side lines, but thats not the reason im in favor. zoos actually help animals, the sick or injured animals they find end up in the zoo where ive seen are treated well and seem pretty happy. and they do most of the time let animals back out into the wild when they feel theyre ready. think of it as taking care of an orphan or foster child.

I liked them when I was younger, and the animals can just ignore bratty kids if they get too out-of-control. It's a great way for kids to learn about wild animals.
