It is cruel to make an anial suffer but it is also cruel to put down animals in shelters because there is not enough room. That is awful.

if the animal is suffering, then it's fine and understandable. if my pet was suffering and there was no way to make it better then i would most likely have it put down...but otherwise it should not be allowed.

Euthinization is giving animals shots that kills them immediantly for anyone that doesn't know.

I agree with 123cosmo4 on that. I think there should be more fix and release programs. They take in agressive strays, spay them and release them again so that they don't get put to sleep.

Same here. I hate to say it but sometimes it's better to let the animal die than to go through all the pain and then die later.

My brother's friend has this really old dog that's small, blind, deaf and always shivereing. It's suffering, but they don't want to put it down yet. I think if pets are in terrible condition like that, then it's okay.

I KNOW IT IS SAD, YOU GUYS, BUT IF THE ANIMAL IS
SUFFERING, SOMETIMES IT IS THE ONLY OPTION.
MY AUNT IS A VET SO I KNOW ABOUT THIS STUFF.

SORRY IF THIS IS A BIT GRAPHIC, BUT:
IT'S LIKE THIS: IMAGINE YOU'RE AN ANIMAL
AND YOU'VE BEEN RUN OVER AND YOUR ARMS AND LEGS
HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF AND YOU'RE BLEEDING
TO DEATH, YOU'D WANT SOMEONE TO GIVE
YOU A QUICK INJECTION AND PUT YOU OUT
OF YOUR MISERY. TRUST ME. THE ANIMAL
DOESN'T FEEL IT, AND AFTER ABOUT TWO
SECONDS OF GETTING THE JAB, THERE'S
NO PAIN AT ALL. THEN THEY PEACEFULLY,
PAINLESSLY DIE. ISN'T THAT BETTER THAN
DIEING A LONG, SLOW DEATH IN AGONY,
WHEN LIFE IS NO LONGER WORTH LIVING,
AND YOU KNOW THEY WILL NEVER GET BETTER?
THINK ABOUT IT. NOT FROM YOUR POINT OF
VIEW -- BUT FROM YOUR PET'S.

SOMEONE A LOT WISER THAN ME ONCE SAID 'SOMETIMES DEATH CAN COME AS A FRIEND'

You have to put yourself into the animals shoes and wonder what it would be like to have to live like that. Yeah obviously its gonna be hard to put them down, but would u rather that you sent ur pet to a better place out of harm?? Or would u rather keep it so it dies naturally, but it be in pain for a year?

Its horrible when shelters do it just because an animal has been there 'too long' But my old cat Crispy, wild cat we took care of but he stayed outside, came down with Feline Leukemia, it was so heartbreaking because he was having severe breathing trouble and there are no cures, he was suffering so we made the devestating decision to put him down </3 RIP

I hate the idea of euthanization, especially when it is unnecessary. Like all the animals at shelters who can't find homes that are put down. I cried when I saw them euthanize that shelter dog on Oprah! But if the animal is in a lot of pain, and the owners decide to euthanize, it is the only other option.

Okay so in my book it's better to euthanziate the animal instead of letting him live for like 1-2 months more in suffering or i am also for euthanization of very agressive dogs who were in dog fights cause shelters can't keep them forever and they can't go in any families but euthanizating a healthy dog just cause he is in the shelter no its cruel

to everyone who says that euthanasia should be illegal, it should stay legal. My rottweiler Karni had bone cancer in her leg, with arthritis in the other, she was 11 and we decided to let her live as long as she could, she had painkillers, she had love. But one day her face swelled up like a balloon with fluid and we had to euthanise her, she was in agony, her knee in her cancerous leg eventually became like a baseball. For anyone who thinks euthanasia is "cruel" or "mean", leaving an animal suffering in pain is more cruel than letting them die with a little dignity

No. And you shouldn't if you know there is no chance of it getting any better then I think you should put it out if its misery.
I would. It would be sad but at least the animal wouldn't suffer anymore.

Yes, but only if the animal is dying. My first rabbit was put to sleep, because he was terminally ill, extremely weak and at a high risk of having a heart attack or fit.

But when my second rabbit fell ill at a young age, the vet still recommended I have her put down, as there was about a 15% chance she would live (she had critical flystrike). But I said I wanted the vets to continue with the treatment just because there was still a small chance she might live. She actually did live, and eventually made a full recovery; it was some of the best news I ever had. :)

I actually think euthanasia should be legal to humans in more countries too, but again only if the person is terminally ill; never for depression suicides or anything like that.

It makes me sad. Like, if YOU had a skin condition (mange, for example) you wouldn't be killed. But sometimes it's the best thing for people and the animal. If it will never heal or can't ever find a good home, I don't think it's the worst thing. Those poor animals who are suffering deserve peace for the rest of their lives.

i think it should be legal because my dog was suffering and had to put him down in a peaceful way so that was the only way it would be ok but i don't like it to be used just because it is sick or hurt and the person doesn't want to deal with it.

If the animal is suffering, then yes. How would you like to be left sitting there in pain and have no0one help you or make any effort to make your passing away more bearable? @SilentRevelry, most people look upon animals as inferior to us, which I have no idea why, so why shouldn't they be put down in a painless, bearable way? A lot of humans don't deserve euthanasia, if you ask me, anyway. And there are people that do, so it should be legalised for humans, its an age-old philosophical argument... I even studied that particular question at university for philosophy.

Sometimes it's the best thing for the animal. I think humans should be able to be euthanised too, because in some situations it's the kindest thing you can do for them. And is death (once you're actually dead, not the process of dying) really that bad? It has to happen to all of us one day.

People may say it is a terrible thing Euthanizing to kill an animal. But just think about the other ways they would have to put to sleep an animal that is suffering. My Mom and I own a dog rescue and we had a litter that way extremely sick and needed to be put to sleep. In Kentucky they gas them to put them to sleep. Just think about that!
