A dog shoudln't have to have their ears and tail cut OFF just for fashion. That would be like cutting off my fingers when I was born because it's the latest thing.

I also agre. No physical parts of any animals should be mutilated for human pleasure. These mutilations do nothing for the animals health wise and are not necessary.

If it isn't true and they do it just for fashion then I'm 100%against it!!!

My uncle does it to his hunting dogs and he does it when they are puppies so it doesnt hurt them.

my dog is from a breeder and they did it to her they said it dosent hurt them beacause they are still really young, but they do it to miniture pinchers (which is what i have) to give them there distinct look.

I believe it's no different than having your ears pierced when you are a baby pain wise, but I think that slicing off body parts s bad. I mean, dogs use their tails for balance.

Yea. And they use their ears to hear. I mean like that is so mean and cruel.

I have a boxer with a cropped tail, and I think mutilating their tails like that is just wrong! Her sister had her ears cropped, but we decided not to do it to her because it is just for fashion. Plus, she looks cute with floppy ears!

I must admit, I've never owned any kind of dog before so I don't know much about this subject. But something about it really disturbs me.

So, is it literally just done for fashion? As in, it's not something dogs have done for health reasons or anything that actually benefits them? Because that's the impression I'm getting from the other comments here so far. And if that is the case, then I think that's completely pointless.

Whether or not it hurts the dog, there is really no need for it. It's random too. Why on earth would a dog care about human fashion? If their owners want to be fashionable, they should customize themselves instead of their dogs!

When I was little, I once asked my mom once why my aunt's dogs had stumps instead of tails, and she said that they had been cut off when they were puppies. I was horrified. I was against docking from that day on. It's sickening to me to think of cutting off the appendage of a living creature. I know a lady, and her dog has hip pain issues because her tail was docked too close. It's wrong and I hope it becomes illegal. As my mom told me, if a dog is born with a tail, it's meant to have a tail.

There's just no reason for it.
