What do you think of people who shoot animals just because they are stray/feral?

I think if they are men they should have their penis cut off, cut into small pieces and fed to said strays, if they are women they should have it sewn shut very tighly then dropped off somewhere where the men won't bother removing the wire before relations. This goes for the skunt who killed the kitten with her high heels, And woodsmen

That they are actually solving the problem in the most efficient and humane way possible. This is even more humane than methods that animal shelters use and is one of the prefered methods in many states that have initiated shoot-on-sight polices to deal with the exponentially increasing explosion of feral-cat populations. If using animal-shelter methods, a feral-cat lives trapped in a cage, in torment with no hope of escape, for many days before its terror and suffering is finally put to an end. If euthanized by gun on their home-turf, one moment they are happily stalking some helpless wildlife to maim and cruelly torture again, the next they are dead, not even knowing what happened. This is also the only method that doesn't endanger nor harass any other animals, like what happens when using non-discriminatory random-chance traps.

If this instead happens to a stray, rather than a feral-cat, then too bad. Maybe the criminally irresponsible cat-owner will learn their lesson and keep their next invasive-species cat indoors where it belongs next time. If not, then the owner should be harshly fined with cruelty to animals for all the wildlife that their cat tortures and disembowels for play-toys every day of its life.

Why do criminally-irresponsible pet-owners lie so much and so often?

The general rule-of-thumb in the USA is that if your land is in an area zoned for livestock (if you can keep chickens or goats, etc.), then it is perfectly fine to destroy any animal, someone's pet or not, that is threatening the well-being and safety of your own animals. The only animals exempt from you taking immediate action, legally, are those listed on endangered or threatened species lists. Even then variances can be given should there be sufficient problem but this requires further study by authorities. Since cats are listed in the top 100 WORST invasive-species of the world in the "Global Invasive Species Database", this means they have no protection whatsoever from being shot on sight. And in fact, if your area enforces and obeys invasive-species laws -- as they should -- then it is against the law to NOT destroy any cat on sight, someone's pet or not. It is your civic and moral responsibility to destroy any invasive-species that is found away from safe confinement and roaming freely in a non-native habitat.

A cat-owner that releases their cat in an area zoned for any form of livestock has no legal grounds to sue anyone if their cat is shot. Even if the shooter walks up to the door of the ex-cat-owner and hands their dead cat back to them, saying, "I shot your cat, here it is. Better luck next time." Though local law-enforcement frowns on this because the disrespectful and criminally-irresponsible cat-owner will just raise a stink with law-enforcement, wasting their time when they have more important things to do than explain to and coddle an irresponsible ex-cat-owning idiot. Hence the popular "SSS Cat Management Program" (Shoot, Shovel, & Shut-Up) method to save your gendarmes the further hassle by the ex-cat-owning trouble-makers.

Besides, what difference does it make if the cat gets shot or ran over by a car or attacked by another animal? The result is the same. The cause is the same -- the fault of the criminally irresponsible pet-owner that let that cat roam free. It only means they really didn't care about that cat at all, so nobody else should either.

There's a difference between 'stray' and 'feral.'

Where I live, it's illegal to shoot a stray animal unless it's self defense. There's a pretty hefty fine (close to 1 grand, and possible jail time, if I remember correctly -- although that has nothing to do with shooting and animal and more to do with discharging a weapon in the city's limits). The cops are pretty diligent about catching people shooting off guns, so it's not an issue I've had a lot of personal experience with. But, I would not be okay with someone shooting animal just because it's walking through their yard or running down the street.

Feral animals are a little different. They're basically wild animals and are much more likely to attack than a stray (link). They also either haven't been vaccinated or are extremely behind on vaccinations, so the risk of spreading disease (not only to people, but to other animals) is high. I don't condone shooting a feral animal just because it's there, but I don't blame a person for being cautious either. Also, shooting an adult feral animal may be a humane thing, depending on the circumstances. Adult feral animals are almost impossible to re domesticate/rehabilitate.

To me shooting an animal is acceptable only if someone's life is in imminent danger.In case of an encounter with a feral animal the best thing to do is to notify the authorities to capture it and return it to it's natural habitat.

I understand that stray and feral animals can be dangerous, but there is no need to shoot them! They are living creatures! I also know that a feral animal might not be able to reabilitate, but there are other ways to help this creature like trapping them and putting them in a place where they show no danger to people. People these days are out of their minds!

if the law was caught up with todays world and not back in the 1800's, then the punishment would meet the crime as it should. Anyone who harms an animal ought to be convicted the same way az if they juzt hurt an infAnt! they Are both helplezz and depend on human beingz to keep them safe, warm, happy and fed.
