They are genetically bred for their aggression, been originally bred for bull baiting. So in a way it is in their genes, much like a retriever is good at retrieving or a Blood hound has excellent smell, all through genetic selective breeding. When people turned it into a sport where the dog and bull would get into a pit and fight, that's where the name Pit Bull originated. After that was outlawed they began breeding them to fight each other. With proper training, socialization, and care most can make great companions and family pets, but unfortunately many don't get trained right or socialised.

Their reputation. Most dick holes train theirs to be mean and vicious, but the breed itself isn't that way.

Some are and some aren't, like most breeds of dogs really. It's not like an entire breed all has the same personality!

I think the reputation of them being bad came from what the vicious ones are capable of, and what members of the breed have been known to do.

Well, that is because so many of them have been targeted as the ideal dog for dog fighting. When there are stories about dog fighting, pit bulls are usually the breed of dog used. They are wrongfully stereotyped. If you trained a chihuahua to fight, it would try to kill everything in it's sight too!

Except it'd be funny as hell to see a Chihuahua try to kill somone. The thing is so small that the mst it can do is bite an ankle.

well, I guess that would make them an ankle biter. Point is that if we did train chihuahua's to fight, they would get a reputation as being aggressive too.

they actually are a little bit naturally agressive but that can be trained out easily.unless you have put your dog in fights and stuff.then they're just deep down scared and ready to fight for their life.

Mostly, people who think pit bulls are terrible, vicious animals are afraid of them. Pit bulls are incredibly powerful, but the dog acts the way its owners want it to. If the owners want a cruel, attack-prone, brute of a dog, they got it. If the owners want it to be nice and friendly and playful, it will be. Unfortunately, most people want their pit bulls to be killing machines, so a lot of people think that all of the breed is that way. Pity them. Pit love. <3

As much as I hate to say this they actually are naturally more vicious than most breeds of dogs. They were bred to be like that you see. But at least they made it into the world as a companion dog as well. When people first tried to breed Siberian Huskies they bred them with wolves and the resulting dogs were so vicious and untameable they had to be sent into the wild and everyone had to make sure that breed no longer existed.

Well, pit bulls have been known in the past to of been fighting dogs and are the most common dogs to attack children. Although anything can be trained to be nasty so why pick on pit bulls? I believe that humans are the reasons behind the reputation of pit bulls and I am not going to be involved in this horrific incident.
