I know they're stage but really, Emmy should take some acting lessons from them. I don't really mind her singing, but it's definitely not angel quality.
I don't care if she was 16/17 when she filmed this (atrocious) movie. I wouldn't care if she was 14, I wouldn't care if she was 12... Hell, I wouldn't give a shit even if she was 10. If she's THIS FAR in her career that she's playing CHRISTINE DAAE onscreen, she better know what she's fucking doing.
Which she obviously doesn't.
Her "acting" (though with her, we always have to use that term extremely lightly) was nonexistent. She always had one facial expression throughout the whole film. Actually, no. She had two expressions: "high" and "fake orgasm". Her line delivery is completely forced and phony, and a mentally challenged three-year-old could've delivered the lines better than she did. How on earth did she get nominated for a Golden Globe alongside REAL actresses like Kate Winslet, Renee Zellweger, and Annette Bening?
Don't even get me started on her breathy, nasal, emotionless singing. Yes, her voice has improved since then (like how a C- is an improvement over an F, but whatever), but that doesn't change the fact that her voice was mind-numbingly terrible in this film.
Also, Rossum takes a boring, bland, one-dimensional character and makes her even more boring, bland, and one-dimensional. That takes some special fucking kind of talent.
Oh, and it's off-putting watching a minor playing the love interest opposite two men in their late 20's/early-mid 30's. So yeah, she was too young.
