Advice Question

Stop smoking?

So, a week ago I stopped smoking. I'm doing well right know, the physical addiction is already gone. But now I still have to let go of the habit.

Ninety percent of all people (family, friends) I hang out with smoke, so I can't avoid it.

I stopped smoking before and I always start again when I am with friends and I just want to smoke because it feels like the right thing to do.

I did not really want to stop smoking, so I'm not greatly motivated. Basically I stopped smoking because my doctor told me to. My boyfriend stopped smoking with me, so thats a great help.

Any tips to keep me from starting again?

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on stop smoking. That is a great first step. The next thing you need to do is replace your old habit with a new one. Some people use chewing gum, some use exercise. Try to find something that works for you. It is good that your boyfriend also quit. You can encourage each other to stick with it. Be carefull to avoid the temptation of having just one more. That is a trap alot of people fall into. Be strong and steadfast untill not smoking becomes your new norm. Good luck.

Two big gigantic thumbs up for you! A good thing you could think is that you don't want to let your boyfriend down with this. If he's stopped and you've stopped you need to support each other and encourage each other. As mentioned find something you could replace it with. Also think of something that could give you reason not to smoke, whether it be someone you admire doesn't smoke, you have things to look forward to from not smoking, etc.

I'm thinking of buying something nice for myself when I stopped for a month, since I save a lot of money now I'm not smoking anymore. Thank you.

Addressing the friends and family issue.

Just explain to them your determination to quit smoking. After all, they are your family, and if your friends are true, they'll help you every step of the way. You could come up with ideas to help avoid smoking around you. I, myself, am allergic to cigarette smoke, but most of my family is full of smokers as well. I'm sure that if my family could avoid it for me, your family can as well.
